The Salem Police Department’s drug and explosive-sniffing canine/officer team recently conducted their first training exercise at Shetland Park Self Storage, as part of a collaboration to conduct periodic walk-through training exercises at the North Shore’s largest self-storage facility, located in Shetland Park on Salem Harbor.
“The first exercise went very well and the Salem Police Department is grateful to have a real-life setting to train in because it really benefits the dogs, as well as the officers,” said Captain Frederick Ryan. “The dogs, in particular, get a lot out of this type of training because they don’t know it’s an exercise and a self-storage facility presents a unique training ground that can’t be duplicated,” added Captain Ryan.
“We view this as not only a safety measure for Shetland Park’s self-storage facility and the customers who store there, but also as support for public safety within the entire Salem Community,” said Katie Davis, Leasing & Marketing Manager at Shetland Park. “Safety is one of the biggest concerns for self-storage customers and facility operators, so we’re pleased to assist the Salem Police Department and do what we can to help them be prepared,” added Davis.
